The Snu guideSNU: one flavour list, four strengths
What do you do with a brand that prints its strength as a word, a number and a row of dots, all on one lid? You read the number. SNU, spelled SNÜ on the can, keeps things simple underneath. There is one list of flavours, sold at 9mg, 12mg, 18mg and 45mg a pouch. Cherry Cola tastes the same whichever of those you pick, and so does everything else. So decide the strength first, then the flavour.
This guide takes the four strengths from lightest to strongest, names the flavours on the shelf at each, then covers the brand, our strength scale, the lid and how to choose. One thing to know before you begin. The 45mg cans don't say 45 anywhere on the lid, and this page explains why. Start here, then pick a can.
01Who is behind SNU
The can spells the name SNÜ, with two dots over the U, and our shelf writes it SNU. It's the same brand. SNU describes its pouches as made in the EU. It names no country and no factory, so this page stops there too. The brand also says it is inspired by Sweden's smokeless tradition, and those are its own words.
Where the brand is specific is the product. The pouches are tobacco free. The range is built as one set of flavours offered across four strengths, which the brand labels Low, Medium, High and Xtra High. Those are the brand's labels. Our strength bands are worked out from the milligrams, so use the number when you compare SNU with anything else on the shelf.
02SNU on our strength scale
Our scale sorts every can by the nicotine in one pouch. Light is under 8mg. Medium runs from 8mg up to 16mg. Strong runs from 16mg up to 25mg. Extreme is 25mg and over. The 9mg and 12mg cans are both medium, the 18mg cans are strong, and the 45mg cans are extreme.
The steps aren't even, and that matters when you move between them. From 9mg to 12mg is three milligrams inside one band. From 12mg to 18mg is six milligrams and a change of band. From 18mg to 45mg is twenty seven milligrams, which clears the top of strong and lands deep in extreme. On the top cans the lid gives 60mg per gram, a measure by weight, and that is 45mg a pouch. Side by side, the number that lets you compare cans is always the milligrams a pouch.
03The can, the lid and the pouch
Every SNU can on the shelf holds 20 slim pouches, and that's the same at all four strengths. The can is white with a band in the flavour's colour. Black Ice is the exception, in a black can. At the top is a scented patch with the line Rub here to smell the flavour. Beside the flavour name is a tab with the strength, such as 9mg per pouch.
Under that is a row of six dots with the brand's strength word beneath. Two dots are filled on a 9mg can and all six on an 18mg can. The 12mg can is the one the brand marks Medium. The 45mg can has six filled dots and an X, with 60mg per gram in the tab.
04How to choose a SNU flavour
Strength first, then taste. For mint there are two cans, and they sit at opposite ends of the range. Fresh Mint is smooth, with subtle menthol and a cooling finish, at 9mg and 12mg. Black Ice is a very cold mint and comes at 45mg only.
For fruit, think sweet against sharp. Grape, Triple Mango and Watermelon are on the sweet side. Lemon & Lime is the sharp, tangy one. Strawberry Kiwi and Wild Cherry sit between, sweet with an edge, and Tropical Punch is the mango and pineapple blend. If you'd rather have something from the drinks fridge, Cherry Cola is spiced cola with sweet cherry and Fizzy Energy is an energy drink flavour. Still undecided? If you only try one, make it Cherry Cola. It's on the shelf at every strength, so it will be there whichever line you chose.
