Spearmint that runs warm
Hot Spearmint is the Shift can that does mint the other way round. Instead of the cool feel you'd expect, the maker pairs spearmint with a heating sensation, which is what Hot means across the Shift range. VELO is BAT's nicotine pouch brand, and Shift is its line launched in Sweden in 2025 with a rounded pouch and a six sided can, in a format the maker calls Comfort. Every Shift can is 8mg a pouch, so this one sits in the Lower Strength tier of our VELO shelf next to Shift Cool Peppermint. Same shape, same strength, opposite temperature. What it tastes like
Tastes like spearmint chewing gum that's been warmed in a coat pocket on a winter walk. The spearmint comes first, sweet and leafy the way spearmint is, and then the heating sensation builds behind it and stays for the rest of the pouch. It's warmth rather than spice, so there's no pepper or chilli flavour, just the mint with the temperature turned up. No fruit, no menthol chill, one mint doing something unexpected. If cool mints have always felt like the only option, this is the one that proves otherwise.
How strong it is
Each pouch carries 8mg of nicotine. On our scale that's the first step of the medium band, which runs from 8mg to 16mg, and in snus terms it's a strength most people can use all day. The whole Shift line sits at 8mg, so the choice is between flavours rather than numbers. The maker's page gives three dots, 11.4mg a gram and 20 pouches in the can. The pouches are tobacco free, and VELO lists what goes in them as water, plant based materials, flavourings, sweeteners and nicotine.
