The sweet mint, at the top of the ladder
Spearmint is the softer of the two mints in the Nordic Spirit Dry range, and this is it at the maker's top standard strength: 11mg a pouch. Nordic Spirit is a JTI brand, created in Sweden and first launched there in 2018, in the UK since 2019, with the pouches now produced in Poland. The Dry range pouch is made, in the maker's words, with plant based fibre and gum base, and it comes in a standard size that retailers call slim, 20 to a can, with a place in the lid for used pouches. The lid shows the strength as dots beside the mg. Tobacco free, sweet mint, 11mg. The gentle flavour with the biggest number in the range.
What it tastes like
Tastes like the green chewing gum, the one that was always sweeter than the blue. The maker describes it as crisp menthol freshness balanced with fresh and sweet tasting spearmint, and that is the shape of it: a cool menthol opening, then the round, sweet spearmint note that spearmint fans know on sight. It is gentler than the brand's plain Mint, which runs on peppermint, and it stays sweet and fresh from the first pouch to the last. Where Mint is the sharp, clean one, Spearmint is the one that smiles. Pick it for the flavour, then pick the strength.
How strong it is
Each pouch carries 11mg, which sits in the medium band on our scale, from 8mg up to 16mg. On the maker's own ladder it is the top standard strength, above Regular at 6mg and Strong at 9mg, and the maker labels this step Extra Strong on its pages. So the two scales say slightly different things: the can says it is the brand's top step, our scale says a solid medium. Both are true.
