The gentle end of Nordic Spirit
Nordic Spirit is the JTI brand that was created in Sweden, first launched there in 2018, and arrived in the UK in 2019; the pouches are now produced in Poland. Mint is its plainest flavour and this is its lightest strength: 6mg a pouch, which the maker calls Regular on the can. It comes from the brand's Dry range, in a standard size pouch that retailers call slim, with 20 to the can and a place in the lid for used pouches. The lid shows the strength as a row of dots alongside the mg figure. Tobacco free, mint, 6mg. The friendliest Nordic Spirit on the shelf, and a good place to begin.
What it tastes like
Tastes like the first mint out of a fresh packet, before the sweetness has had a chance to build. The maker describes it as refreshing menthol and crisp peppermint, and that is the whole recipe: a cool menthol note up front, a clean peppermint behind it, and nothing sugary getting in the way. It is a clear, simple mint that reads the same from the first pouch to the twentieth. Where Nordic Spirit Sweet Mint adds a sweet note and Frosty Mint turns the peppermint up, plain Mint is the one that stays level. Which, on a long day, is exactly the point.
How strong it is
Each pouch carries 6mg, which on our scale sits in the light band, from 1mg up to 8mg. The maker's own word for 6mg is Regular, printed on the can, and its ladder goes up from here to Strong at 9mg and on to 11mg. So this is the bottom rung of Nordic Spirit on our shelf, and the one to pick if you want the flavour with the least behind it. The Dry range pouch is made, in the maker's words, with plant based fibre and gum base, which gives a drier feel and a bold flavour release.
