The one the name doesn't explain
Most Maggie cans tell you what's inside before you've opened them. Mr Blue keeps its secret, so here it is plainly. It's a dark berry blend led by blueberry, with raspberry alongside. It isn't a mint, and it isn't a blue raspberry. The can is the familiar Maggie yellow with a red rim and a green palm tree behind the name, and the lid reads Original Jamaican Pouch above the flavour. One more thing to recognise when it arrives is that the lid is labelled Maggie Lite, a word our title leaves out.
What it tastes like
Blueberry comes first. It's the sweet, deep note the blend is built around, and it's there from the start. Raspberry sits beside it and adds a brighter edge, so the sweetness has something to lean against. Together they read as a dark berry blend, a bowl of mixed berries more than any single fruit. Side by side with the rest of the Maggie shelf, which is mostly named after Caribbean drinks and food, this is the berry can with the mystery name. If berries are where you usually end up, start here.
How strong it is
Each pouch holds 16mg. On the shop's strength scale that puts Mr Blue in the strong band, which runs from 16mg up to 25mg, so it sits on the first rung of it. Medium covers 8mg up to 16mg, just below. Maggie comes in two lines, and this is the lower one, with the 60mg cans far above it in the extreme band. Mr Blue is on our shelf at 16mg only. That keeps the choice simple, one berry blend at one strength.
