The Snowman guideSnowman: six flavours, two strengths
Some brands ask you to learn a whole ladder of lines before you can choose a can. Snowman doesn't. It's a Tridots brand with a short, tidy shelf: six flavours, two strengths and one slim white pouch throughout. The strengths are 9mg and 12mg a pouch, and both sit in the medium band on our strength scale. So the choice here is narrow in the best sense. You decide between two neighbouring strengths, then between mint and fruit.
This page sets the two strengths side by side and names every flavour on the shelf. Then it covers who is behind the brand, how the numbers sit on our scale, what's in the can and how to settle on a flavour. If a medium can is already your usual snus, you'll find your place quickly. Start with the strength, then pick the flavour.
01Who is behind Snowman
Snowman is a Tridots brand. The company named on the brand's own contact page is TRIDOTS UK LTD, of London, and it's the only company name the brand gives. The brand says its pouches are manufactured in Denmark. That is the brand's own statement and it names no factory, so that's as far as the detail goes. What you can rely on is the name on the paperwork and the can in your hand.
Snowman presents itself as more than a label on a lid. In its own words, "Snowman is not just a brand, we are a lifestyle", and its two slogans are "Work hard, play hard" and "In a world full of snowflakes, be a snowman!" The can is easy to spot once you know it. The flavour name sits in a box at the top of the lid, with Snowman in large letters beneath it. It's a confident look for a short, focused range.
02Where 9mg and 12mg sit on our scale
Our strength scale works in bands. Light is anything under 8mg a pouch. Medium runs from 8mg up to 16mg. Strong runs from 16mg up to 25mg, and extreme is 25mg and over. Both Snowman strengths are medium. The 9mg cans sit 1mg above the bottom of the band, and the 12mg cans sit exactly halfway through it. So the step between them is a short one inside a single band, 3mg a pouch.
There's one thing to know when the can arrives. The mg figure is ours to tell you, because the lid shows a row of five dots and a word instead. On the 9mg can the lid prints MEDIUM with three dots filled, and on the 12mg can it prints STRONG with four. Those are the brand's own markings. On our scale both cans are medium, and the number is the thing to shop by. The brand also gives the strength by weight, at 15mg per gram for the 9mg can and 20mg per gram for the 12mg can.
03What's in the can
Every Snowman can on our shelf holds 20 pouches, and the lid says so. The format is slim and the pouches are white, at both strengths and in every flavour. The brand calls them soft and slim, and describes them as tobacco free. By the brand's figures a pouch weighs 0.6g and a full can holds 12g. Because the format never changes, moving between 9mg and 12mg changes one thing only, and that's the strength. The fit under the lip and the count in the can stay exactly as you know them.
04How to choose a Snowman flavour
Choose the strength first, then ask one question. Mint or fruit? For mint, Arctic Kick is the cool, icy one and comes at both strengths. Fresh Mint is the plain, crisp mint and comes at 12mg. For fruit, think about how sharp you like it. Citrus Boost is the tart end, lemon and lime. Raspberry Blast is sweet with a little tang. Tropical Punch is the sweet blend, and Watermelon Breeze is sweet and juicy with a light cool finish, at 9mg.
Four of the six flavours come at both strengths, so finding one you like doesn't tie you to a single number. And if you can't decide between mint and fruit, Watermelon Breeze has a little of both in its favour, with fruit first and that cool finish behind it. Start with the flavour you'd reach for in any other brand, then find it at your strength.
