The Nordic Spirit guide

Nordic Spirit: three strengths, eight flavours and two kinds of pouch

What do a star on the lid, a row of dots and the words Dry and Moist have in common? They all belong to Nordic Spirit, a JTI brand that was created in Sweden, launched there in 2018 and reached the UK in 2019. There are three strengths, 6mg, 9mg and 11mg a pouch, and eight flavours spread across them. Four are mints, three are fruits and one sits between the two. Every can holds 20 pouches in the same size. So the choice comes down to two things, the number and the flavour.

This page takes the three strengths from lightest to strongest and names every flavour on the shelf at each one. After that it covers the maker, where each figure sits on our strength scale, the difference between Dry and Moist, and how to choose a flavour. Start here, find the number that matches how you use snus, and the list of cans gets short very quickly.

Nordic Spirit 6mg cans
Light · 6mg a pouch

6mg: five flavours in the light band

Six milligrams is where the Nordic Spirit ladder begins on our shelf, and it's the only one of the three strengths that sits in the light band on our scale. The can calls this strength Regular, which is the maker's name for 6mg and has nothing to do with the size of the pouch. Five flavours come at this figure, and they split neatly into two mints and three fruits. Spearmint is sweet spearmint with a crisp menthol freshness behind it, and it belongs to the maker's Dry range. Sweet Mint is fresh mint with sweet notes alongside, and it belongs to the Moist range.

The three fruits are all Moist cans. Raspberry is sweet and tangy, a bright and fruity alternative to the mints. Forest Berries brings wild berries and blackcurrant together, juicy with a fresh side to it. Tropical Mix is ripe pineapple and mango, and 6mg is where it sits on our shelf. Side by side, the five cover a lot of ground without one flavour repeating another. If you only try one at 6mg, Forest Berries is a lovely can to begin with.

Nordic Spirit 9mg cans
Medium · 9mg a pouch

9mg: seven flavours in the medium band

Nine milligrams is the middle step and the longest list. Every can is 9mg a pouch, which places it in the lower part of the medium band on our scale, and the can carries the maker's word Strong beside the figure. Seven flavours come at this strength, and this is where the two Frosty cans join the range. Frosty Mint is a peppermint can, fresh and icy. Frosty Berry opens with fresh peppermint and finishes on a fruity berry note. Both are Moist cans.

Three more mints sit beside them. Mint, the plain one, is refreshing menthol with crisp peppermint, and Spearmint is sweet spearmint with menthol freshness. Those two make up the Dry range. Sweet Mint is fresh mint with sweet notes, from the Moist range. The fruit comes from Raspberry, sweet and tangy, and Forest Berries, wild berries with blackcurrant. If you only try one, start with Frosty Mint.

Nordic Spirit 11mg cans
Medium · 11mg a pouch

11mg: four cans with mint in every one

Eleven milligrams is the highest Nordic Spirit figure on our shelf. It still sits inside the medium band on our scale, which runs from 8mg up to 16mg, so the step from 9mg is a short one within the same band. On the can this strength is named X-Strong. That is the maker's word, and the 11mg beside it is the figure that counts. Four flavours come at 11mg, and every one of them has mint in it.

Mint is menthol and peppermint in a Dry pouch, the same flavour as the 9mg can with more in each pouch. Frosty Mint is the peppermint can again, fresh and icy, and Frosty Berry is peppermint with a fruity berry finish. Both Frosty cans come from the Moist range. Sweet Mint completes the four, fresh mint with sweet notes. If 9mg is your usual figure and you'd like a little more, this is the row to look at. If you only try one, make it Mint, one of the two flavours the brand arrived in the UK with.

Who makes Nordic Spirit

Nordic Spirit is a JTI brand. The maker says it was created in Sweden, at Vårgårda Kvarn near Gothenburg, and first launched there in 2018. The maker says the pouches are now produced in Poland. The brand reached the UK in 2019 with two flavours, and JTI's UK trading company is Gallaher Limited, based in Putney, London.

The range has grown since then. Frosty Mint and Frosty Berry were announced for the UK in February 2025, and Raspberry, Tropical Mix and Forest Berries followed in May 2025. In 2026 the brand was given a new look, with a North Star logo, bolder colours, strength shown as dots on the can and a Dry or Moist label on the pack. The maker says the flavours and strengths stayed the same.

Where the three figures sit on our scale

Our strength scale sorts every can by the nicotine in one pouch. Light is anything under 8mg. Medium runs from 8mg up to 16mg, strong from 16mg up to 25mg, and extreme is 25mg and over. Nordic Spirit on our shelf uses two of those bands. The 6mg cans are light. The 9mg and 11mg cans are both medium.

The can has its own language as well. The maker names 6mg Regular, 9mg Strong and 11mg X-Strong, and the lid shows strength as a row of dots next to the mg figure. Those are the maker's names and the maker's scale, and they don't line up word for word with our bands. Our titles leave the strength word out, so our Mint 9mg is the can sold as Mint Strong. Go by the mg and you'll always know where you are.

Dry and Moist: the label on the pack

Nordic Spirit comes in two ranges, and the pack tells you which one you're holding. Dry covers Mint and Spearmint, and the maker describes it as a drier feel. Moist covers Sweet Mint, Raspberry, Forest Berries, Tropical Mix, Frosty Mint and Frosty Berry, and the maker describes it as increased moisture for a softer feel and a quicker flavour release. Neither is a step up from the other. It's a matter of how you like a pouch to feel.

What's in the can

Every Nordic Spirit can on our shelf holds 20 pouches. The pouch is one size across the lot. The maker calls it Standard, and you'll also see the same pouch described as slim. The pouches contain no tobacco. The lid has a place for used pouches, and the maker says the newer Moist cans have a slimmer shape. What changes from can to can is the strength, the flavour and whether the label says Dry or Moist.

How to choose a Nordic Spirit flavour

Start with the strength, then ask yourself one question. Mint or fruit? For mint there are four to know. Mint is menthol and peppermint. Spearmint is sweet spearmint with menthol freshness. Sweet Mint is fresh mint with sweet notes. Frosty Mint is peppermint, fresh and icy. For fruit there are three, Raspberry for something sweet and tangy, Forest Berries for wild berries and blackcurrant, and Tropical Mix for pineapple and mango. Frosty Berry sits between the two camps, peppermint first and berry after.

Then check that your strength has the can you want. Spearmint, Raspberry and Forest Berries come at 6mg and 9mg. Sweet Mint comes at all three. Mint and the two Frosty cans come at 9mg and 11mg, and Tropical Mix comes at 6mg. Still undecided? Choose the flavour you'd reach for anywhere else, a mint or a berry, and find it at your number.

How many pouches are in a can of Nordic Spirit?

Twenty. Every can on our shelf holds 20 pouches in the size the maker calls Standard, which you'll also see described as slim.
