The Helwit guide

Helwit: Swedish flavour at the light end of the scale

Most brands ask you to settle on a strength before anything else. Helwit turns that round. Every can on our shelf sits in the light band, from 3.5mg a pouch up to 7.5mg, so the real decision is the one most people enjoy more, which is flavour. And flavour is where this Swedish brand shows its character. There's a sweet, soft mint and a cold peppermint, as you'd expect. There's also floral Violet, fizzy Cola, creamy Banana, a coffee flavoured Mocha and a can that sets raspberry beside liquorice.

This page takes the shelf in three steps: the 3.5mg cans, the 4.5mg cans, and the three above them at 6mg and 7.5mg. Then it covers who makes Helwit, where the numbers fall on our strength scale, what's in the can and how to choose a flavour. Start here, then pick your can.

Helwit 3.5mg cans
Light · 3.5mg a pouch

3.5mg: six flavours, side by side

This is where the Helwit shelf is at its widest. All six cans carry 3.5mg a pouch, which is low in the light band on our scale, and all six are slim with 20 pouches to a can. Side by side, they fall into three pairs. The first pair is the familiar one. Mint is a sweet, soft mint with a fresh side to it. Cola is sweet and fizzy, the taste of the drink it's named after. The second pair is fruit. Banana is ripe, sweet and creamy, and the maker says it won the 2023 customer vote under its Helwit Concept label. Watermelon is fresh and fruity, and the maker heads that can as the winner of Helwit Concept 2025.

The third pair is where Helwit goes its own way. Violet is a flower flavour, floral and sweet at the edges, and it's neither a fruit nor a mint. Raspberry Liquorice sets sweet, slightly tart raspberry against a deep liquorice note, and the maker says it was among the flavours most requested in a survey on its site in 2024. If a light can is already your usual, any of the six will sit comfortably. If you only try one, try Violet, the flower on a shelf of fruits and mints.

Helwit 4.5mg cans
Light · 4.5mg a pouch

4.5mg: Cherry, Orange and Strawberry

One step up, and the list narrows to fruit. Each of these three cans is 4.5mg a pouch, still in the light band on our scale, with the same slim pouch and the same 20 to a can. Cherry comes first for anyone who likes an edge on their fruit. It's tart and tangy, with some sweetness behind it. Strawberry is the straightforward one, a strawberry flavour the maker describes as a taste of Swedish summer.

Orange needs a line of its own, because there's more than orange in it. It's zesty, zingy orange with a fresh mint twinge, so expect citrus first and a little mint behind. That makes it the bridge between the fruit cans and the mints. All three suit someone whose usual can is a light one and who wants a touch more than 3.5mg without leaving the band. If fruit with a hint of mint appeals, start with Orange.

Helwit 6mg and 7.5mg cans
Light · 6 to 7.5mg a pouch

6mg and 7.5mg: Menthol, Mocha and Violet

The last three cans carry the highest figures on our Helwit shelf, and each has a clear character. Menthol is 6mg a pouch. It's a cold peppermint and menthol, and the maker describes it as the bigger brother of its soft Mint can, so it's the colder and bolder mint of the two. There is one thing to know before the can arrives. The maker has renamed this flavour Peppermint, with the same taste, so your lid may read Peppermint where our title says Menthol.

Mocha and Violet are both 7.5mg a pouch, 0.5mg under the point where our medium band begins. Mocha is coffee with chocolate and caramel, the one coffee flavour on a shelf of fruit, flowers and mint. Its lid prints Extra Strong round a black outer ring, which is the maker's name for the can, and the Violet at this strength is sold elsewhere under the same two words. Violet here is the same floral, sweet flower flavour as the 3.5mg can, with a little over twice the nicotine in each pouch. If you use light snus and your usual sits near the top of the band, these are the three to look at.

Who makes Helwit

Helwit is made by YOIK AB in Sweden. The pouches come from the company's own factory in Gransholm, outside Växjö in Småland, and the side of the can reads Made in Sweden. The maker says it launched Helwit online in February 2021. It also says it chose to set up its own factory so that it could take charge of every ingredient and every step of production.

Two more points are the maker's own statements. It says the factory's electricity comes from the hydropower plant next door. And it says it tests new flavours with its customers under a label called Helwit Concept. Banana won that vote in 2023, and the maker names Watermelon as the 2025 winner. So, on the maker's account, some of the cans on this page were chosen by the people who use them.

Helwit on our strength scale

Our scale sorts every can by the nicotine in one pouch. Light is under 8mg. Medium runs from 8mg up to 16mg, strong from 16mg up to 25mg, and extreme is 25mg and over. Every Helwit can we stock is in the light band. The 3.5mg and 4.5mg cans sit low in it, Menthol at 6mg sits higher, and Mocha and the second Violet at 7.5mg sit just under the 8mg line.

The lid has a mark of its own, and it helps you recognise the can. The 3.5mg cans print Nicotine 2/4, the 4.5mg cans print 3/4 and Menthol prints 4/4. That fraction is the maker's scale across its own cans. Ours goes by milligrams a pouch, so read the fraction as a way to tell the cans apart and the band as the measure of strength. One brand, one band, four figures to choose from.

What's in the can

Every Helwit can here is slim format and holds 20 pouches. A can weighs 10g and a pouch 0.5g. The pouches contain no tobacco. On the nicotine, the maker's own line is that it is extracted from tobacco leaf, but there is no tobacco in the pouch. The can is easy to spot. It's round and white, with a target of rings in the flavour's colour, and the brand name and the flavour curve round it in black capitals. Because the format is the same across the shelf, moving from one strength to another keeps the fit and the count exactly as you know them.

How to choose a Helwit flavour

Start with the family, then check the strength. For mint there are two cans and they're easy to tell apart. Mint at 3.5mg is sweet and soft, and Menthol at 6mg is the cold peppermint. For fruit, think about how you like it. Banana is creamy, Watermelon is fresh, Strawberry is simply strawberry and Cherry is the tart one. Orange belongs in both camps, since it carries a fresh mint twinge.

Then there are the cans with no obvious neighbour. Cola is sweet and fizzy. Mocha is coffee, chocolate and caramel. Raspberry Liquorice is for anyone who likes liquorice with fruit beside it. And Violet is the flower, at 3.5mg or 7.5mg, the only flavour here that comes in two strengths. Still undecided? Choose the taste you already reach for elsewhere, then read the mg on the can.

FAQ

Questions about Helwit

How strong is Helwit?

It depends on the can. Banana, Cola, Mint, Raspberry Liquorice, Violet and Watermelon are 3.5mg a pouch. Cherry, Orange and Strawberry are 4.5mg. Menthol is 6mg, and Mocha and the second Violet are 7.5mg. All of them are in the light band on our strength scale, which covers everything under 8mg.

Who makes Helwit?

YOIK AB, in Sweden. The pouches are made at its own factory in Gransholm, outside Växjö in Småland, and the can reads Made in Sweden.

Is Helwit tobacco free?

Yes. The pouches contain no tobacco. The maker says the nicotine is extracted from tobacco leaf, but there is no tobacco in the pouch.

How many pouches are in a can of Helwit?

Twenty. Every can is slim format, with 20 pouches of 0.5g each in a 10g can.

Why does my Helwit Menthol can say Peppermint?

The maker has renamed the flavour. It says the taste is the same, a cold peppermint and menthol, so a can reading Peppermint and a can reading Menthol are the same flavour at 6mg a pouch.

What does Helwit Violet taste like?

Flowers. Violet is floral and sweet at the edges, and it's neither a fruit nor a mint. We stock it at 3.5mg and at 7.5mg a pouch.

Is Helwit Orange only orange?

There's mint in it too. Orange is a zesty orange with a touch of fresh mint, at 4.5mg a pouch.

What do the fractions on a Helwit lid mean?

They're the maker's own strength mark. The 3.5mg cans print Nicotine 2/4, the 4.5mg cans print 3/4 and Menthol prints 4/4. The 7.5mg cans carry no fraction. To compare strength, go by the mg a pouch.
