The Nordic Spirit guideNordic Spirit: three strengths, eight flavours and two kinds of pouch
What do a star on the lid, a row of dots and the words Dry and Moist have in common? They all belong to Nordic Spirit, a JTI brand that was created in Sweden, launched there in 2018 and reached the UK in 2019. There are three strengths, 6mg, 9mg and 11mg a pouch, and eight flavours spread across them. Four are mints, three are fruits and one sits between the two. Every can holds 20 pouches in the same size. So the choice comes down to two things, the number and the flavour.
This page takes the three strengths from lightest to strongest and names every flavour on the shelf at each one. After that it covers the maker, where each figure sits on our strength scale, the difference between Dry and Moist, and how to choose a flavour. Start here, find the number that matches how you use snus, and the list of cans gets short very quickly.
01Who makes Nordic Spirit
Nordic Spirit is a JTI brand. The maker says it was created in Sweden, at Vårgårda Kvarn near Gothenburg, and first launched there in 2018. The maker says the pouches are now produced in Poland. The brand reached the UK in 2019 with two flavours, and JTI's UK trading company is Gallaher Limited, based in Putney, London.
The range has grown since then. Frosty Mint and Frosty Berry were announced for the UK in February 2025, and Raspberry, Tropical Mix and Forest Berries followed in May 2025. In 2026 the brand was given a new look, with a North Star logo, bolder colours, strength shown as dots on the can and a Dry or Moist label on the pack. The maker says the flavours and strengths stayed the same.
02Where the three figures sit on our scale
Our strength scale sorts every can by the nicotine in one pouch. Light is anything under 8mg. Medium runs from 8mg up to 16mg, strong from 16mg up to 25mg, and extreme is 25mg and over. Nordic Spirit on our shelf uses two of those bands. The 6mg cans are light. The 9mg and 11mg cans are both medium.
The can has its own language as well. The maker names 6mg Regular, 9mg Strong and 11mg X-Strong, and the lid shows strength as a row of dots next to the mg figure. Those are the maker's names and the maker's scale, and they don't line up word for word with our bands. Our titles leave the strength word out, so our Mint 9mg is the can sold as Mint Strong. Go by the mg and you'll always know where you are.
03Dry and Moist: the label on the pack
Nordic Spirit comes in two ranges, and the pack tells you which one you're holding. Dry covers Mint and Spearmint, and the maker describes it as a drier feel. Moist covers Sweet Mint, Raspberry, Forest Berries, Tropical Mix, Frosty Mint and Frosty Berry, and the maker describes it as increased moisture for a softer feel and a quicker flavour release. Neither is a step up from the other. It's a matter of how you like a pouch to feel.
04What's in the can
Every Nordic Spirit can on our shelf holds 20 pouches. The pouch is one size across the lot. The maker calls it Standard, and you'll also see the same pouch described as slim. The pouches contain no tobacco. The lid has a place for used pouches, and the maker says the newer Moist cans have a slimmer shape. What changes from can to can is the strength, the flavour and whether the label says Dry or Moist.
05How to choose a Nordic Spirit flavour
Start with the strength, then ask yourself one question. Mint or fruit? For mint there are four to know. Mint is menthol and peppermint. Spearmint is sweet spearmint with menthol freshness. Sweet Mint is fresh mint with sweet notes. Frosty Mint is peppermint, fresh and icy. For fruit there are three, Raspberry for something sweet and tangy, Forest Berries for wild berries and blackcurrant, and Tropical Mix for pineapple and mango. Frosty Berry sits between the two camps, peppermint first and berry after.
Then check that your strength has the can you want. Spearmint, Raspberry and Forest Berries come at 6mg and 9mg. Sweet Mint comes at all three. Mint and the two Frosty cans come at 9mg and 11mg, and Tropical Mix comes at 6mg. Still undecided? Choose the flavour you'd reach for anywhere else, a mint or a berry, and find it at your number.
