The food on a shelf of drinks
Plantain is an unusual word to see on a lid, which is part of why this can gets noticed. Maggie names its flavours after Caribbean drinks and food, and Sweet Plantain is the food. It's sweet ripe plantain in a slim white pouch, warm and close to banana in character. The can is yellow with a red rim, with a green palm tree behind the name and Original Jamaican Pouch printed on the lid. Worth knowing before it arrives is that the can itself is labelled Maggie Lite, where our title simply says Maggie. It's the same product.
What it tastes like
Start with ripe plantain, the sweet kind that has turned soft and golden. That's the centre of the flavour. It's close to banana, a little warmer and rounder, with a caramelised sweetness of the sort you get when the fruit has met a hot pan. The sweetness is the lasting impression, and it stays consistent from the start of the pouch to the end. Side by side with Maggie's cola and grape cans, this is the warm, mellow one. If banana flavours appeal to you, this is the natural can to try.
How strong it is
